The heat that makes the Emirates difficult in July is exactly why the country has so much for children: when outdoors is impossible for five months a year, you build indoors, and you build big.
Theme parks
- Ferrari World on Yas Island holds Formula Rossa, the fastest roller coaster in the world — 0 to 240 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Riders wear goggles because at that speed insects hurt. The rest of the park is gentler and suits small children.
- IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai is the largest indoor theme park on earth, with Marvel, Cartoon Network and an animatronic dinosaur zone.
- Warner Bros. World (Yas Island, opened 2018) is entirely indoors and air-conditioned — six lands of Looney Tunes, DC and Hanna-Barbera.
- Dubai Parks and Resorts gathers Motiongate, Legoland and a Legoland water park on one site, with combined tickets.
Water and sea life
- Aquaventure at Atlantis The Palm is among the largest water parks anywhere, with slides through a shark lagoon.
- Yas Waterworld is themed around the pearl-diving story and has more for small children than most.
- SeaWorld Abu Dhabi opened in 2023 as the largest indoor marine park anywhere and — unlike its American relatives — keeps no orcas; the research centre attached to it is worth the extra half hour.
- Dubai Aquarium inside Dubai Mall holds ten million litres of water behind a single viewing panel, with a 48-metre walk-through tunnel. You can look at the tank from the mall for free.
Green and quiet
- Dubai Miracle Garden plants around 150 million flowers into arches, hearts and a full-size Airbus A380. It is open roughly November to May and simply does not exist in summer.
- Global Village runs on the same seasonal calendar — pavilions from dozens of countries, street food, fairground rides. Cheap, chaotic and the best value on this list.
- The Green Planet at City Walk is a tropical biodome with sloths and toucans, small enough to finish before anyone tires.
- Louvre Abu Dhabi has a dedicated children's museum, and its shallow water and dappled light under the dome hold attention better than you would expect.
Practical notes
- May to September: plan indoor attractions and use hotel pools early and late in the day.
- November to March: beaches, the seasonal gardens and the mountains are all open — this is the season to come with children.
- The Dubai Metro is clean, cheap and stroller-friendly, with a carriage reserved for women and children.
- Park tickets are expensive individually; multi-park passes and advance online booking cut the cost noticeably.
- Malls have family rooms, changing facilities and free filtered water — take advantage of them.
